What is a Volcano?

A volcano is a distinctive geological feature, an opening in the Earth’s crust. It spews out lava, fire, volcanic ash, hot gas and rock. They have a range of different sizes, classifications, causes and locations and are mainly found along where two tectonic plates meet  – occasionally popping up over ‘hot spots’; holes in the Earth’s crust (such as the islands of Hawaii.)
